Building Communities by Helping Kids

When it comes to building communities, there are many ways to make an impact. A few of our property teams worked to get backpacks to children, to ensure they started their school year off right regardless of their family’s financial situation.

In September, our colleagues in Ottawa at World Exchange Plaza reached out to Caring and Sharing to see if there was interest in receiving back-packs for those less fortunate. With a growing number of families needing assistance, there certainly was! The team worked hard to create as many units as they could that were full of recommended school supplies for kids in grades 5 to 8.

Meanwhile, our team at Southcore Financial Centre in Toronto had similar concerns about disadvantaged children heading back to school. They partnered with Start2Finish to create their Backpacks for Kids campaign, where tenants were encouraged to fill a backpack with supplies and drop it off. They were joined by our team at 145 King West and 200 King West in Toronto to get as many backpacks into the hands of children as possible.

Our McDonald Apartments community in Halifax also got into the action as they do every year with a 3-week school supply drive each August. They donated all the supplies to the Phoenix Youth Programs that help kids in school with places to live and medical care.

We thank our customers for their generosity in helping us make a difference in our communities.
